Texas - The Lone Star State

Texas is called the Lone Star State because Texas used to be its own nation. Texas used to be part of Mexico, but fought for independence from Mexico. Later, Texas was annexed by the United States which led to the Mexican-American War. After the Mexican-American War, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, and Nevada became part of the United States.

I will also visit the LBJ Museum and library. LBJ was the president after John F. Kennedy. I will visit The Lady Bird Johnson Gallery, which is in the LBJ Museum and Library.

I am also going to ride a train in Texas for two hours! I am also going to watch a wild west gun fight while I am sill in the train station in the town where the train turns around and heads back.  The train rides are given by the Austin Steam Train Association.

I am also visiting the JFK Memorial in Texas too. JFK was assassinated in 1963, during a parade in Dallas,Texas. The JFK Memorial was donated by JFK's family in his memory.

When I go to Texas, I will visit The Alamo. Mama's friend is named Sara and she is from Texas and she lives in San Antonio but is in California working at the same office Mama works at until April. She is going all the way to San Antonio with us. She says we can stay with her family right there in San Antonio and that the Alamo is a must see place to visit. I'll write more about the Alamo after I visit there so stay tuned.
